As seen in two episodes of the original series, “Errand of Mercy” and “Day of the Dove”, this prop replica was designed to closely match the screen used version as much as possible.
Every effort was put forth to replicate the original screen used prop in as close detail as possible by carefully watching the two episodes mentioned above.
Unfortunately, we never get to see the Klingon communicator with the lid open or in much detail, so artistic liberties were taken with the inside design. Because the exterior and flip-top lid is similar to the well known Federation communicator, we thought it made sense the Klingons would also opt for a similar overall look for the interior. Our interior design choices are based on this assumption and were made to offer optimal visual appeal.
This communicator was designed to look great on display, both open and closed, but it also has some action built into it to allow for more enjoyable Cosplay. The construction was made to be durable, but being plastic, it’s always a good rule to treat it with some care to avoid accidental breakage.
